Layout Design
Use Layout Design to control how fields are arranged on form pages.
What You Can Do
In Layout Design, you can:
- create layouts
- copy layouts
- edit layout settings
- configure page type
- configure layout scope
- set layout priority
- group fields on the canvas
- hide fields from the layout
- set required fields for a layout
- configure page events for create and edit pages
- configure child-table scripts for editable child rows
Layout Scope
Layouts can be configured for different page types, including:
- default
- list
- view
- new
- edit
- relation
The page also supports layout scope rules and priority so different layouts can apply to different subjects or contexts.
Canvas And Components
The layout editor includes a canvas and a components panel.
You can:
- drag fields into groups
- arrange groups
- move or hide fields
- manage required fields per layout
The layout sidebar also supports:
- layout information
- hidden fields
- required fields
- layout groups
- page scripts
Page Events
Use the Page Events tab when a create or edit page needs runtime behavior that depends on current form values.
Page scripts are configured per layout. When the runtime page matches that layout, it can run the selected Studio script:
- once when the page loads
- when any parent field changes
- when selected parent fields change
The script can return runtime effects such as:
- show, hide, require, disable, or make parent fields read-only
- set parent field values
- show parent field errors
- show messages, notifications, or modals
- request a runtime refresh
Page script configuration is saved in the form custom configuration under formPageScripts[layoutId]; it does not change the database schema.
Child-Table Scripts
The Page Events tab also supports a separate child-table script for editable child tables on the same layout.
Child-table scripts can run when:
- a child row is added
- a child row is removed
- a child field changes
For child field changes, you can listen to all child fields or only selected child fields. Selected child fields use the childFormApiName.fieldApiName format.
Child-table scripts can return effects to:
- show, hide, require, disable, or make child fields read-only
- set child field values for one row or every current row
- show child field errors for one row or every current row
Child script configuration is saved in the form custom configuration under formChildPageScripts[layoutId].
Layout Types And Matching
Layouts are not only visual drafts. They are matched by page type, scope, and priority.
Use this when:
- one form needs different list and detail layouts
- create and edit pages should behave differently
- different subjects or contexts need different layout variants
When To Use Layout Design
Use Layout Design when the form already has the fields you need, but the page structure, grouping, or page-specific presentation still needs adjustment.
For Studio script payloads, triggers, and returned effects, see Page.
