This-Computer Environment: Linux

Use a Linux desktop with a graphical browser and the Soln installer for your processor. The desktop installation flow prepares Node.js and Cosign; OpenSSL is not required.

1. Install Docker Engine

Install Docker Engine, Compose v2, and Buildx using the Docker Engine installation guide for your distribution. Docker Desktop for Linux is another option.

For a systemd host, start the engine:

sudo systemctl enable --now docker

The account running Soln must be able to use Docker without an interactive sudo prompt. Follow Docker's Linux post-installation steps; the Docker group grants privileged access to the engine, so grant it only to intended users. Sign out and back in after changing group membership.

Check as your normal user:

docker info
docker compose version
docker buildx version

All three commands must succeed. A socket permission error means the current account cannot access the engine yet.

2. Prepare encrypted storage

Use a filesystem backed by LUKS for the deployment directory. Soln checks the mount and backing block devices with findmnt and lsblk; it does not enable LUKS or format disks for you.

Allow enough space for tenant data and backups, and for Docker's image storage. Ensure bash, curl, tar, sha256sum, findmnt, and lsblk are available; the installation flow uses these system tools.

3. Open Soln and install

Continue with This-Computer Installation. If Soln cannot verify encryption, resolve the selected mount or device issue before installing.

On Linux, import <deployment directory>/certs/soln-local-root-cert.pem into your browser or system trust store when prompted. Soln generates the certificate but does not add trust automatically.

For a deliberate terminal installation, use the optional CLI section in This-Computer Installation. That route requires you to prepare Node.js and Cosign yourself.
