Dynamic Formula

Dynamic formula fields calculate a value from a formula expression. The formula can reference fields from the current form and supported related forms.

Use a dynamic formula field when the result should be derived from other field values, such as status text, risk level, overdue state, formatted code, or calculated date.

Basic Settings

SettingDescription
NameThe field label shown to users. It is required and should describe the calculated result clearly
API NameThe stable technical name used by data APIs, scripts, formulas, imports, and integrations. It is required
RequiredRequires the calculated result to exist before the record can be saved
ReadonlyShows the calculated result but prevents manual editing
DisabledMakes the field unavailable for normal use
HiddenStores the calculated result while hiding it from normal form pages

Dynamic Formula Config

SettingDescription
Result TypeThe type of value returned by the formula. It controls validation, display, and the stored data type
Display Source FieldA same-type field used to reuse display configuration. It is shown when the result type is Select or Time
Formula ExpressionThe expression used to calculate the field value
Insert FunctionInserts a supported formula function into the expression
Insert FieldInserts a field reference into the expression
Formula TrialTests the formula against one selected record from the current form

Result Types

Result TypeUse
StringText results such as labels, descriptions, codes, or status text
NumberNumeric results such as scores, amounts, rates, and counts
BooleanTrue-or-false results such as flags and rule checks
DateDate results
DatetimeDate-time results
TimeTime-of-day results
WeekWeek period results
MonthMonth period results
QuarterQuarter period results
YearYear period results
SelectOption-like string results that should reuse a select or radio field display configuration

Display Source Field

Display source field is only needed for result types that depend on another field's display configuration.

Result TypeWhy It Is Needed
SelectReuses option labels, option values, and option display behavior from a select or radio field
TimeReuses time display configuration from a time field

Formula Tips

TipDescription
Match result type and expressionThe formula result must match the configured result type
Use inserted fieldsInsert fields from the editor to avoid typing API names incorrectly
Test before savingUse formula trial to confirm the expression returns the expected result for real record data
Keep formulas readableSplit complex business logic into smaller fields when one expression becomes hard to maintain

Validation In Commands

When creating or updating formula configuration through system commands, provide a non-empty config.dynamicFormula.formulaExpression. Empty expressions are rejected with FORMS_FIELD_FORMULA_EXPRESSION_REQUIRED.
