Design Notes

Layout Design controls how a form is presented on different pages. It does not create fields. It arranges existing fields, hides fields for the current layout, marks layout-level required fields, and attaches page events when the page needs runtime behavior.

Use Layout Design after the form fields are ready and the page structure needs to be adjusted for list, view, create, edit, or relation scenarios.

Open Layout Design

  1. Open Work > Forms
  2. Select a form
  3. Click Layout Design in the form details area

The page opens for the selected form and shows the current form name in the title.

Page Structure

Layout Design contains three main areas:

AreaPurpose
LayoutsCreates, copies, selects, edits, and deletes layouts
CanvasShows the field groups, fields, and components in the selected layout
ComponentsProvides Field Group, Related Form, and View Page Sidebar; availability depends on the page type

The left activity bar switches between Layouts and Components.

Layout Details

After selecting a layout, the detail panel provides:

TabPurpose
Layout InfoSets layout name, page type, priority, default sort, and scope
Hidden FieldsManages fields hidden by the current layout
Required FieldsManages fields required by the current layout
Page EventsAttaches Studio scripts to runtime page events

Relationship With Field Design

Field Design defines the fields and their data model. Layout Design decides how those fields appear and behave in a specific layout.

Changing a layout does not change field API names, data types, or database structure. It changes the presentation and runtime rules for pages that match the layout.

Common Workflow

  1. Create or copy a layout
  2. Set the layout information and applicable page type
  3. Arrange fields into groups and add related forms or a view page sidebar when needed
  4. Hide fields that should not appear in this layout
  5. Mark layout-level required fields when needed
  6. Add page events for runtime logic
  7. Save the layout

View Layouts and the Sidebar

A view page can combine record fields, child tables, related forms in the page body, and right-side entries for approvals, automation, permissions, change history, and related forms.

Use View Page Sidebar to configure the order, visibility, and related form entries of the right-side menus. Default and view layouts support one sidebar component each. The Related Form component in the page body is available only in view layouts.

See Canvas and Components for configuration and View Page for how members use the result. Layout scope and priority can give different members different sidebar configurations.
