Text And Long Text
Text and long text fields both store user-entered text. Use Text for short content that should stay on one line. Use Long Text for notes, descriptions, or multi-line input.
Most configuration items are the same. Long text adds row controls for the visible text area height.
Basic Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The field label shown to users. It is required and should describe the business meaning of the field clearly |
| API Name | The stable technical name used by data APIs, scripts, formulas, imports, and integrations. It is required |
| Required | Requires users to provide a value before the record can be saved |
| Readonly | Shows the field but prevents users from editing it |
| Disabled | Makes the field unavailable for normal use |
| Hidden | Stores the field while hiding it from normal form pages |
The flag settings affect each other. For example, a field cannot be both required and hidden, and a readonly field cannot also be required, disabled, or hidden.
Shared Text Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Placeholder | Prompt text shown in the input before users enter a value. Use it to show the expected input format or a short example |
| Min Length | Minimum number of characters allowed. Leave it empty when there is no lower limit |
| Max Length | Maximum number of characters allowed. Use it to prevent overly long values |
| Regex Rule | A regular expression used for format validation. Use it for strict patterns such as fixed codes or allowed character sets |
| Min Length Message | Custom validation message shown when the value is shorter than the minimum length |
| Regex Message | Custom validation message shown when the value does not match the regex rule |
| Trim Mode | Controls whether leading and trailing spaces are removed before the value is saved |
| Input Status | Adds a visual status to the input, such as warning or error. Use it when the field should visually stand out |
| Case Transform | Controls letter case handling before save: keep the original value, convert to uppercase, or convert to lowercase |
| Validate Trigger | Controls when validation runs: when the value changes, when the field loses focus, or when the record is submitted |
| Show Count | Shows the current character count in the input. This is useful when the field has a maximum length |
| Field Color | Sets the display color used for the field |
| Help Text | Helper copy shown near the field. Use it for short business guidance that should stay visible while users fill the form |
Regex Examples
Use Regex Rule when the text must match a fixed format. The value can be saved only when it matches the rule.
| Scenario | Regex Rule | Matches | Does Not Match |
|---|---|---|---|
| Letters and numbers only | ^[A-Za-z0-9]+$ | A123, Order9 | A-123, Order 9 |
| Lowercase code with underscores | ^[a-z][a-z0-9_]*$ | customer_code, order2 | CustomerCode, 2order |
| Fixed 6-digit code | ^\d{6}$ | 123456 | 12345, ABC123 |
| Phone-like number | ^\+?[0-9]{7,15}$ | 13800138000, +14155552671 | 138-0013-8000, phone123 |
Starts with SO- plus digits | ^SO-\d+$ | SO-1001 | so-1001, SO-ABC |
Common regex symbols:
| Symbol | Meaning |
|---|---|
^ | Start of the value |
$ | End of the value |
\d | A digit |
+ | One or more times |
* | Zero or more times |
{6} | Exactly 6 times |
[A-Za-z0-9] | Any uppercase letter, lowercase letter, or digit |
Add a Regex Message so users know how to correct invalid input.
Long Text Row Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Min Rows | Minimum number of visible rows in the text area |
