Serial number fields store business codes. They can generate the next code automatically according to a template and sequence rule.
Use a serial number field for values such as order numbers, ticket numbers, customer codes, asset codes, or other identifiers that need a consistent format.
Basic Settings

| Name | The field label shown to users. It is required and should describe the code clearly |
| API Name | The stable technical name used by data APIs, scripts, formulas, imports, and integrations. It is required |
| Required | Requires the field to have a value before the record can be saved |
| Readonly | Shows the generated code but prevents users from editing it |
| Disabled | Makes the field unavailable for normal use |
| Hidden | Stores the generated code while hiding it from normal form pages |
Serial number fields are usually left empty at runtime so Soln can generate the next value automatically.

| Reset Cycle | Controls whether the sequence never resets, resets yearly, resets monthly, or resets daily |
| Generate Timing | Controls when the number is generated: on create, on active submit, or after approval |
| Uniqueness Strategy | Controls whether uniqueness is checked against all values or only automatically generated values |
| Overflow Strategy | Controls what happens when the sequence exceeds the configured width: expand automatically or report an error |
| Number Width | Minimum width of the sequence number. The number is padded with leading zeros when needed |
| Start Number | The first number used by the sequence |
| Step | The increment between generated numbers |
| Preview | Shows an example value based on the current template and sequence settings |
